Yuroke, Mill Park electoral seats to be abolished

The lower house seats of Yuroke and Mill Park will be abolished under proposed changes to the state’s electoral boundaries.

Yuroke will be replaced by two new seats, Kalkallo and Greenvale, with the suburb of Craigieburn split between the two.

Mill Park will become the Morang district and will be extended to the west to take in parts of Thomastown district along Craigieburn Road East, Highpark Drive, Northside Drive, Harvest Home Road, and Vilchns Views. Childs Road and Plenty Road will form the new southern boundary.

Suburbs south of Childs Road will become part of the Bundoora district.

The Electoral Boundaries Commission has been conducting a redivision of electoral boundaries for both houses of state Parliament to ensure each vote in state elections has equal value.

Electoral commissioner Warwick Gately, said he was pleased with the level of community engagement in the initial consultation period.

“The EBC in December 2020 invited submissions from the public, and received 58 submissions – five from political parties, 15 from organisations and community groups and 38 from individuals,’ Mr Gately said.

“Anyone interested in providing comment on the proposed boundaries should lodge a written submission.”

The EBC will be seeking public feedback about the proposed changes until 5pm on Friday, July 30.

The proposed boundaries can be viewed at ebc.vic.gov.au
