Police have located what appear to be human remains as part of their ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Epping woman Ju “Kelly” Zhang.
Investigators started an extensive search at a Wollert landfill on Bridge Inn Road last Tuesday.
The remains, which are yet to be formally identified, were located about 2pm on Friday.
A crime scene was established and is being examined by investigators from the Major Crime Scene Unit.
Police said the coroner has been advised and a post-mortem exam will be conducted in due course.
Crime Command assistant commissioner Bob Hill said he commended the “tireless efforts” of officers.
“Our members have worked under very difficult and trying conditions to ensure that every avenue of inquiry has been exhausted,” he said.
Police also acknowledged Hanson Heidelbergcement Group, who operate the Wollert landfill, for its assistance on site.
The landfill has remained operational throughout the search.
Ms Zhang was last seen at her home on Winchester Avenue in Epping about 5.30pm on Monday, February 1.
The 35-year-old was believed to be wearing a pink nightgown and possibly pink slippers at the time she went missing.
A 35-year-old Doncaster man has been charged with one count of murder.
The investigation remains ongoing.
