A sensory-experience play space is under construction at Thomastown’s Carrington Children’s Centre.
The centre is home to a number of playgroups for children with diverse needs.
The new play space will include a slide, trampoline, water pump, swing set, mud kitchen and a vegetable garden.
Whittlesea administrator Peita Duncan said the play space was designed in consultation with the playgroup facilitators who operate out of the centre to ensure it meets the needs of the children who will be using the space.
“We’ve focused on creating a space where children will be able to develop their social, emotional and physical skills through play in a safe and inclusive environment,” she said.
“As well as being a place where a diverse range of children from our community can enjoy themselves, the play space will offer an opportunity for carers and families of children to interact with each other and experience some respite.”
The $370,000 Carrington Children’s Centre upgrade is scheduled to be complete by the end of June 2021. The project was partially funded ($150,000) through the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
