Mernda Retirement Village resident Marilyn Shaw is gearing up to host her fourth Biggest Morning Tea to raise money for cancer research.
Marilyn hopes this year’s event, which will be held on Thursday, May 27, will raise about $2000 for the Cancer Council.
She expects up to 100 people to attend.
We’re hoping it’ll be a good year,” she said.
“Cancer Council lost out a lot last year, so hopefully people dig a little deeper this year.
“We’ve got to be really careful because of COVID, and keep an eye on numbers.
“Right now we have about 55 or 60 on the list already, and I’m hoping for about double that number.”
Marilyn said she considers the fundraiser to be important.
“I just feel very lucky that I haven’t been hit by cancer,” she said
“If I do have a run-in with [cancer] I know I’ve played a part in trying to find a cure, or help others living with it.
“I’m happy to do it. I just think that it is important.”
The Biggest Morning Tea is an annual initiative by the Cancer Council. The official Biggest Morning Tea date for this year is Thursday, May 27, however people can host events at any point until the end of June.
