David Abud cycled 304 kilometres from Melbourne to Horsham in honour of his dad.
The Northern Health senior theatre technician completed the ride last month for his, Dr Rodney Abud, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease 18 months ago.
Before being diagnosed, Rodney had worked in Horsham for almost 30 years, and had treated the disease he is now battling.
David was accompanied on his journey by colleagues and his father-in-law.
David said the people who greeted him in Horsham at the conclusion of his three-day challenge were extra special.
“Two of my sisters had brought my mum up and she greeted us at the end, so that was a surprise,” he said.
“My mum gave me a hug and said that dad would be very proud.”
David set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the Australian Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, and has raised over $12,700.
“I am proud, but humbled at the same time,” David said.
“I would like to thank the people who helped me ride.
“I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”
