Mill Park’s newest play space has been given the “tick of approval” by kids of all ages and abilities.
The all abilities play space on Morang Drive was recently opened by Whittlesea council.
The fully-fenced playground features multiple zones including water play, a multi-level climbing tower, a full-sized basketball court and sheltered areas.
Whittlesea council chair of administrators Lydia Wilson said the space was developed in consultation with the community.
“Careful consideration has been put into the design of the park, with multiple areas developed within the site to cater to different age groups and abilities,” Ms Wilson said.
There is also a quiet and sensory play area to act as a retreat within the wider reserve.
“The play elements in this area are designed to encourage calm and controlled exploration.”
The park has also gained the approval of local agencies who work with people living with disabilities, including F.C.L. Support Services.
F.C.L director Fiona Losciavo said the opportunity for people of all abilities to enjoy the park is great.
“I’m excited that there is finally a fun and safe place we can bring the children and adults we support and know the needs of people of all abilities have been considered,” Ms Losciavo said.
Other features of the park include a double flying fox with an accessible seat, trampolines, inclusive swings and slide, picnic and barbecue facilities, toilets including a changing places facility, shelters and lawn areas.
The council contributed $3.5 million to the project, with the state government providing $1 million from its Growing Suburbs Fund.
