Mernda man charged over alleged Port Melbourne assault

A Mernda man has been charged over an alleged assault in Port Melbourne on New Year’s Day.

The 19-year-old was arrested by police today and charged with a number of offences including reckless conduct endangering life, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a drug of dependence and trafficking a drug of dependence.

Police said the charges follow an alleged assault which saw a vehicle drive into a crowd of pedestrians on Beach Street about 11.20pm on January 1.

Two females received minor injuries as a result of the incident.

The man is expected to face Melbourne Magistrates Court this afternoon
