Surf’s up once again

Surfers are making the most of the waves at URBNSURF in Tullamarine.

The centre reopened late last month after having been shut for six months due to COVID-19 restrictions.

For most of the surfers, it’s been the first chance for them to hit any type of waves.

The park is running its usual intermediate and advanced sessions along with play in the bay sessions and learn to surf classes for people of all ages.

It’s also introduced two new surf sessions, one for novice surfers and one for expert surfers.

Fitzroy North surfer Alex Gaffey was thrilled to get back into the water.

“I’m so stoked to get back in the water and catch some waves at URBNSURF after months away from my surfboard,” he said.

“Surfing is good for your soul, especially after being cooped up at home for the past six months. It’s fun and a great way to get your daily exercise.”

The park has put in a number of new measures to ensure that all staff and patrons are COVID safe.

Limited numbers are allowed in the park at one time, with only residents from within the 25 kilometres zone.

Currently, guests aren’t permitted to watch due to restrictions.

URBNSURF Group chief executive Damon Tudor said he was excited to welcome back Melbournians.

“After what has been a challenging year, we’re stoked to provide surfers, families, and friends with the opportunity to get outdoors, reconnect, and enjoy perfect waves in a COVID-safe environment.”

“Our new cruiser and expert sessions will be on the menu, and we’re gearing up to open our restaurant and café with Three Blue Ducks, launch our new surf lesson pathways, and host exciting events over summer once restrictions further ease.”

Members and guests are urged to book in advance at www.urbnsurf.com.
