Craigieburn’s Ezi Magbegor has capped off a stunning debut Women’s National Basketball Association season, with a championship as the Seattle Storm had a clean sweep of the grand final series.
In a season of unknowns, with the whole competition being played in a bubble in Orlando, Magbegor made an instant impact with her new team.
The 21-year-old, who was the youngest player in the bubble, managed to get court time in every game, averaging 13 minutes and 6.5 points per game for the Storm.
The Storm finished the regular season in second in their conference and overall before winning through to the grand final series against Las Vegas Aces.
The Storm won the first game 93-80, before backing it up with a 104-91 win in game two. They claimed the title with a 92-59 win in game three. Magbegor took to the court in all three games, including seven minutes in the final game of the season.
Magbegor joins some of the biggest names in Australian basketball like Lauren Jackson, Penny Taylor and Belinda Snell in wining a WNBA title.
She is the second-youngest player ever to be part of a championship-winning side.
Magbegor doesn’t have long to rest with the Women’s National Basketball League season starting next month.
She will line up for the Melbourne Boomers.
Like the WNBA, it will be held in a bubble, with the season condensed and running for six weeks in North East Queensland.
