St Monica’s College Epping students tasted success at the Wool4School annual student design competition.
The Australian wide competition invites students to design an outfit using a minimum of 70 per cent wool, to showcase their creative and innovative side.
St Monica’s College year 11 student Vivian Ly won the senior designers category, with her friend and fellow year 11 student Miriam Trezise finishing runner-up.
Both girls study textile design as a subject.
Vivian said she was very surprised to have won the award.
“I based mine off a flora and fauna theme,” she said.
“Mine was based off bunnies and added a Chinese flavour, as I’m a Chinese-Australian.
“It was something that I enjoyed making.”
The students had to create a mood board of the design creation and then create a statement talking about the design.
Vivian said it was “really cool” that Miriam finished second in the competition,
“She’s a good friend of mine and she helped me with my design.”
Despite her success, Vivian doesn’t have a career in design in mind. Instead, she wants to be a voice-actor.
St Monica’s College principal Brian Hanley congratulated the students.
“To be so successful in this prestigious national competition is an amazing achievement and I congratulate Vivian and Miriam on their wonderful results,” he said.
“Their designs were well regarded by the esteemed judging panel who placed them the two best designs in their category in
Australia.
“Their win also provides great inspiration to their fellow students studying this subject.”
