Work to upgrade the M80 Ring Road between Sydney and Edgars Road has started two months ahead of schedule.
Major Road Projects Victoria last week confirmed that major works on the $518 million upgrade were well underway.
M80 upgrade project director Andrew Robilliard said that now more than ever, it was crucial to keep infrastructure projects progressing.
“Melbournians know just how busy the M80 Ring Road can be during peak hour, so we’re thrilled to be constructing this vital upgrade to make it better and safer for 165,000 motorists who use this road daily,” he said.
The upgrade will improve key interchanges and build new entry and exit ramps between the Hume Freeway and Edgars Road to boost safety and connectivity for motorists.
A smart freeway management system featuring overhead electronic signs will be installed to give motorists live traffic information and better lane management during incidents.
Temporary access tracks have been constructed between the Hume Freeway and Edgars Road to enable materials to be safely transported to construction sites and safety barriers and fencing have been installed in the works area.
The upgrade is scheduled for completion in 2023.
