A staff member at Aitken Hill Primary School in Craigieburn has tested positive for coronavirus.
Health Minister Jenny Mikakos announced the case this morning, saying the school was one of six across Melbourne to record positive cases since yesterday.
The school, which is closed for the term two holidays, will be shut to tradespeople and staff members for the next 72 hours to allow contract tracing and cleaning to take place.
The school has begun contacting families with information. All staff and pupils are asked to stay at home while contact tracing occurs.
It comes as Victoria recorded 75 new cases overnight, including one which has been linked to the Wollert cluster. The outbreak has now grown to 10 people.
Ms Mikakos said the new case was a close contact of a confirmed case from the cluster, which has been linked to a number of social gatherings in the suburb and St Monica’s College in Epping.
A Mill Park McDonald’s employee who tested positive for the virus, resulting in the restaurant being closed for cleaning last Friday, is a student at the school.
Ms Mikakos said the new cases were overwhelmingly from the hotspot suburbs, where a testing blitz is currently underway.
“We’ve got many cases across the inner and northern suburbs and the western suburbs of Melbourne, but not exclusively, and it’s important to reiterate to the community that you are not immune from catching coronavirus by virtue of the postcode that you live in,” she said.
