Two Craigieburn sisters have shaved their heads to support their mum and grandmother in their fight against breast cancer.

Tabatha and Elizabeth Andrade parted ways with their long locks earlier this month, donating their hair to cancer support charities.

The sisters set up a GoFundMe page to raise money ahead of the shave. They have raised more than $12,000 so far.

Money raised will help the girls support their mum, Brooke, and nan, Gayle during their cancer treatment, including the purchase of adjustable beds. Half of the funds will be donated to the Peter MacCallum Centre Centre to help support other cancer patients.

Tabatha said her mum was diagnosed with cancer a couple of months ago, while her nan’s cancer had returned. Both are currently undergoing chemotherapy.

She said shaving her hair was a way for her to show her support for what they are going through.

“I know I could never be able to fully understand the pain, trauma, stress and anxiety they are both going through, so the least I can do is this,” Tabatha said.

“For the most, hair is something that many people take for granted, yet value so highly due to the desired social image. For both my mum and nan, I am showing them that hair does not make you beautiful. It’s simply just hair.”
