Epping Private Hospital has closed its doors as a result of COVID-19.
The Cooper Street hospital announced on social media last week that it permanently closed its doors on March 27.
“The fast-changing environment of COVID-19 brings risk and a level of uncertainty within Australia’s healthcare sector,” a statement said.
“Further, the federal government’s decision to cancel all private and public non-elective surgeries from April 1, 2020, has significantly impacted the immediate and ongoing sustainability of Epping Private Hospital.
“We therefore regretfully inform our patients and the local community that Epping Private Hospital has permanently closed.”
Epping Private Hospital opened in October 2018 and celebrated its 1000th patient in December last year.
The hospital sought permission from Whittlesea council last year to fast-track its stage two building works.
At the time, chief executive Malak Sukkar said stage two included an extra 120 acute beds, two operating theatres, obstetrics and cardiac services, a six-bed day oncology and infusion centre.
He said the hospital had gone from “strength to strength” since opening.
