VSDCA: Plenty Valley loses to Altona by 26 runs

Plenty Valley suffered its first loss of the season in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association on Saturday, going down to Altona by 26 runs.

It was the Bats’ first loss in a home-and-away match since round three of the 2012-13 season.

Chasing Altona’s 260 from day one of the clash at Frank Kirk Oval, the Bats started confidently, despite losing Dylan Foster before a run had been scored.

Then Sean Ayres (47) and Michael Sheedy (33) set about chasing Altona’s score as both continued their recent good form.

The middle order batsmen also made starts, with Matthew Hunter scoring 59 to anchor the innings.

But after the score had reached 5-203, the lower order failed to go on with the job and the Bats were bowled out for 234.

The Bats’ opponent this week, Roxburgh Park Broadmeadows, will enter the game full of confidence on the back of its best batting performance for the season.

Resuming on 1-62 chasing Williamstown’s 109, the Falcons lost Kurtley Brant quickly.

Patrick Matautaava came and went for 10 but it did nothing to halt Adam Yates.

He and Mitchell Streiff safely guided the Falcons to the win and then set about getting Yates his century.

The Falcons declared at 3-203, with Yates on 104 not out and Streiff on 62 not out. Williamstown made 1-40 in the second innings.
