Red Nose fundraiser born out of Doreen couple’s devastating loss

Doreen couple Kayla and Chris Borg are hopeful the day will come when no child unexpectedly dies during pregnancy, infancy or childhood.

The past few weeks have been devastating for the couple, with their daughter, Grace Maree, stillborn on May 11 after a routine 20-week scan found she no longer had a heartbeat.

Mr Borg said they were broken and utterly devastated by the lost of their first child.

“We were left speechless and feeling really empty,” he said.

“We had a few nights there wondering – why? And then you start to realise there might not be an answer and I started to feel angry and hopeless.”

Realising that they needed to find a way to keep busy in the coming months, the Borgs decided to organise a Red Nose fundraiser in Grace’s honour.

“Red Nose has been fantastic for us with the support they gave us,” Mr Borg said.

“Their vision is they want no child to die unexpectedly in pregnancy, infancy or childhood.”

The fundraiser, to be held on June 28 at the Commercial Hotel in South Morang, will feature a performance by Mr Borg’s band, Swipe Right, and an auction of vouchers and hampers donated by local businesses.

Mr Borg said they were surprised by community reaction, with more than 60 people reaching out to support the fundraiser within hours of it being announced.

The Borgs are encouraging anyone who can’t attend the fundraiser to make a donation via give.everydayhero.com/au/rocking-for-red-nose.
