Lalor twins Willow and Harper have been counting down the days to January 31.
The excited five-year-olds will be among the many preps starting school at St Catherine’s Primary School this Thursday.
Mum Andrea Martchenko said the girls can’t wait to start.
“They thought they were starting the minute they graduated from kindergarten,” she said.
Ms Martchenko said she had mixed emotions about Thursday.
“I’m so happy that they are starting a new chapter and ready to take on the world, but also sad that the twins are no longer our babies,” she said.
“Those last five years really flew by.”
Three new schools will open in Whittlesea and Hume this week – Ashley Park Primary School, Doreen; Glowrey Catholic Primary School, Wollert; and Aitken Hill Primary School, Craigieburn.
