Budding video game designers from Doreen Primary School are putting their design and coding skills to the test at a national competition for student filmmakers, animators and game developers.

The Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI) hosts the national competition, Screen It, each year.

This is the fourth time Doreen Primary School has entered the competition, with its entries taking out the top prize on two previous occasions. This year, a group of pupils has created a hand-drawn video game about a llama that wandered too far.

The pupils learnt to code, write a story and develop characters in order to create the video game.

Their entry is one of five finalists in the year 5-8 video game category, with the winner to be announced on Friday.
