Greenvale Kangaroos have dropped down a division in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association.
The Kangaroos, who were due to play in the Turner Shield senior division, requested to drop a grade because of significant player departures in the off season.
VTCA president Steve McNamara said that while it was regrettable the club left the decision so late, it was encouraging it was doing everything possible to play at the highest level.
St Albans will fill the Kangaroos’ spot in the top grade after several clubs were invited to apply.
The association gave the opportunity to Tullamarine, which has been relegated from the senior division, and all north-west division clubs from last season.
Westmeadows, which won what is now known as the Steve McNamara Shield division 2 last season, also approached the association to put in a submission.
Westmeadows, St Albans and Aberfeldie put in applications.
“After detailed and careful consideration the VTCA board of management are pleased to announce St Albans Cricket Club will immediately be moved up to the Turner Shield senior division to replace Greenvale Kangaroos, while Greenvale will now move down to the Howarth Shield division 1 west,” McNamara said.
