Players from 16 clubs have been named in the inaugural Northern Football League senior women’s representative football squad.

Clubs were able to nominate players for the squad, with 41 players from across all three divisions initially selected.

The final team will face an AFL South East side at Preston City Oval on Saturday, May 19, as part of the 2018 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships.

Among those selected are La Trobe University’s Kate Bond and Teresa D’Angelo, Laurimar’s Donna Keogh and Ellie Koiker, Mernda’s Awek Dut and Natalie Todaro, South Morang’s Jacinta Campbell and Tara Chetcuti, and Bundoora’s Candice Dyson and Bridgette Taylor-Gray.

Keilor trio Gemma and Sarah Wright, and Rachael Knight are also part of the squad.

Chyloe Kurdas will coach the side, having previously coached NFL junior girls representative sides.

She said she hoped to make the representative program a positive experience for all players involved.

“What I want to achieve for the women who play in the rep team is to help them develop habits that will improve their own game and how they approach and think about the game,” she said.

“The rep team should really be a learning experience for all those women involved, but then the knowledge should trickle down back to club level.”
