August 24, 1977

Werribee Shire Council is supporting moves to open Point Cook Beach for use by the public. The beach is at present owned to the high water line by the owners of the Point Cook estate, but the Board of Works has zoned the foreshore as park land.

August 19, 1987

A document leaked to The Werribee Banner on Monday has disclosed plans by the Metropolitan Transit Authority to sell off railway-owned land which is currently used by about 160 Werribee residents as extensions to their backyards. The document stated that the land would be declared surplus and sold and it listed several other suburbs earmarked for similar treatment.

Victoria’ newest prison could cost Wyndham millions of dollars in lost investment, a group of industrialists claimed this week. The new $60 million Port Phillip Prison for men in Laverton North was officially opened on Monday by the Minister for Corrections, Mr McGrath.
