Women honoured

Footscray’s Rafaela Lopez and Yarraville’s Peta Searle have been inducted on to the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll. Ms Lopez was recognised for her dedication to helping people from diverse cultural backgrounds settle in Australia, while Ms Searle’s nomination was for her extraordinary contribution to Australian Rules football.

Poison alert

A report that a dog ate poison wrapped in fish at Altona dog beach last week has been investigated by Hobsons Bay council and the RSPCA. Council officers inspected the beach and found nothing unusual. They will continue to monitor the area and are warning dog owners to be vigilant, just in case.

Servo arrests

Two men were arrested at Altona Meadows servo last Thursday. Police were called to the service station in Queen Street about 5.30pm after reports that two men were involved in an altercation with staff. Police arrested two men, who are due to be charged with aggravated burglary and affray.

Creek trail works on

Works start soon on a new section of the Kororoit Creek trail after Hobsons Bay council awarded a $2.1million contract to Maca Infrastructure.

2.5-kilometre

The new section of cycling and walking trail runs from Grieve Parade to Barnes Road at Altona North. It will have public toilets, picnic facilities, bike storage, lighting, drinking fountains and sculptures by renowned Brooklyn-based artist Geoffrey Ricardo.
