Whittlesea carols promise fun for all ages

Mill Park’s Redleap Reserve will come alive with the sounds of singing and Christmas cheer this Friday at Whittlesea council’s carols by candlelight.

A 57-member community choir has been practising for the special night for the past two months, perfecting renditions of carol favourites and special performances of Silent Night in Italian, Maltese and German.

The singing will also include some “Australianised” carols and the indigenous song, Lingmara.

Choir member ages range from six years old to more than 90.

The choir will be accompanied by the Diamond Valley Brass Band.

The night will also include a special appearance by Santa and his cheeky elves, as well as a nativity scene provided by Mill Park Baptist Church.

Mayor Ricky Kirkham is encouraging residents to come along to the event.

“Carols by candlelight is always a fun night not to be missed,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for the community to come together and to celebrate.”

There will be plenty of activities for children including a craft tent, letter writing to Santa, face-painting and an animal farm.

Food and drink will be available for purchase or attendees can bring picnics.

The event starts at 7pm.
