Roxburgh Park: Man dead after police pursuit

A driver has been killed and five passengers taken to hospital after crashing into a tree in Roxburgh Park on Saturday night.

Police believe Fawkner Highway Patrol officers were attempting to intercept a blue Toyota sedan travelling east on Thomas Brunton Parade near Donald Cameron Drive about 11.30pm.

The male driver, with five passengers in the vehicle, refused to stop and continued along Thomas Brunton Parade.

The car then veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

The driver, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

A female passenger was taken to The Alfred hospital where she remains in a life-threatening condition.

Four other passengers were also taken to hospital.

Major Collision Investigation Unit and Professional Standards Command detectives are investigating the incident.
