A Hume program that connects newly arrived families and those doing it tough with health, education and children’s services is going national.
Established in 2006, Hume council’s 12 early learning hubs also provide playgroups and English programs to help break down barriers that can prevent migrants and disadvantaged residents from engaging with the community.
The concept has been so successful that last week the council hosted community leaders involved in the rollout of similar programs around Australia.
Hume mayor Adem Atmaca said it was wonderful to see the concept spreading to other areas.
‘‘The program has worked well because it helps our residents from diverse backgrounds to access assistance in a safe and comfortable setting,’’ Cr Atmaca said.
‘‘The hubs enable parents to get to know one another and assist children to be really well prepared for life in an Australian school.
‘‘We want all our residents to know how to access doctors, education providers and children’s services, regardless of their backgrounds.’’
