Firefighters and federal police were called to Tullamarine Airport on Thursday morning after white powder was found in the hold of a Qantas domestic jet.
The substance was later removed and taken for testing.
“We are assisting authorities after Qantas substance was found in the forward cargo hold of an A330 aircraft during routine maintenance overnight,” a Qantas spokesman said.
The aircraft flew in from Sydney on Wednesday and is not scheduled to operate again until later on Thursday.
The white powder had leaked from someone’s bag.
The bag is in the cargo hold of a Qantas A330 which is currently parked in the domestic terminal.
No flights are affected so far, despite a heavy emergency services presence.
