Visitors to Woodlands Historic Park will have a rare chance to tour one of Hume’s oldest buildings at the weekend.
The park’s homestead will be part of Open House Melbourne for the first time, giving visitors a rare opportunity to explore the historic site.
The homestead is now home to Living Legends, which provides a place of retirement for champion racehorses.
Hume mayor Helen Patsikatheodorou hopes residents will take the chance to get to know a “local treasure” a little better.
“Woodlands Historic Homestead in Greenvale is one of the oldest built structures in Hume, with construction starting way back in 1843,” she said.
“It’s significant as a rare example of an early prefabricated building … designed and made in Britain before being transported to Australia.”
Sunbury’s Rupertswood Mansion will also be part of the open house program, which aims to connect people with houses and buildings that reflect Melbourne’s history.
The program has been running since 2008.
Woodlands Historic Homestead is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10am.
