Students at Epping’s St Monica’s College are taking a closer look at nature as they begin creating a unique artwork to be displayed at the school.
Japanese print-maker Kyoko Imazu has been appointed the school’s artist-in-residence for this year to guide students.
Ms Imazu is also a book-binder and maker of artists’ books. She recently launched her own illustrated book, Following, at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Ms Imazu will work with year eight students to design and paint a large-scale print to be installed in the school’s E-Learning centre.
Students have been asked to create a print that explores the beauty of the natural world.
Ms Imazu said she was keen for the school community to also contribute to the artwork.
This is the fourth year the school has run its artist-in-residence program.
Principal Brian Hanley said the school is dedicated to giving students different experiences.
“We are very pleased to welcome such an eminent artist as Kyoko to our college,” he said.
“Kyoko has had significant international experience. I am sure the students …will benefit from this rich experience.”
Ms Imazu will be at the school until the end of term two.
