Mill Park’s Alison Herbert is a step closer to realising her dream of joining the Royal Australian Air Force after spending a week at a technical camp in Wagga Wagga.
Ms Herbert recently lived on the RAAF’s base at Wagga for a week, experiencing what it was like to be a member of the air force.
The Girls Residential Technical Camp allowed participants to work on air force equipment and take part in training exercises.
Ms Herbert said she signed up for the camp to get a feel for the air force lifestyle and make sure it was for her.
“Ultimately, I want to become an officer within the air force and a good leader,” she said.
“I want to be an engineer to put what I learnt at uni into practice on real aircraft that are being used everyday.”
Ms Herbert said her favourite part of the camp was the confidence course and physical training.
“It’s great to see young women working together and being mentored by strong female role models,” she said.
The camp was open to young women aged between 16 and 24 from around the country as part of the air force work experience program.
