Driver flees booze bus at ‘180km/h’

A driver trying to avoid a police booze bus sped away from officers at more than 180km/h in Melbourne’s north, police allege.

The silver Commodore failed to stop at the booze bus that was part of a Friday night police operation in Thomastown and Lalor.

The Commodore was later found dumped in Thomastown with a blown motor and police traced the driver to Greensborough.

The man will be summonsed to appear in court charged with failing to stop, driving in manner and speed dangerous, exceeding the speed limit, failing to stop at a red light as well as other traffic offences.

Police allege another driver who was stopped at the booze bus had a blood alcohol reading of 0.21% – more than four times the legal limit.

The alleged drunk driver had his car impounded and his licence suspended for 12 months.

Meanwhile, a Burnside Heights woman is expected to lose her license for 3 months after testing positive for cannabis and methylamphetamine and a P-plate driver from Epping lost his license for 6 months and was fined after he blew 0.028%.
