Whittlesea residents are being encouraged to pull on their walking shoes and prepare their pooches for the annual Million Paws walk.
The event is the RSPCA’s biggest fundraiser, helping the organisation to care for the more than 28,000 animals that enter its shelters each year.
Among this year’s participants will be Doreen brothers Christian and William Schofield and their rescue dog, 18-month old border terrier, Maggie. The boys are keen to take part in the walk to help out animals in need.
RSPCA Victoria chief executive Dr Liz Walker said the support of community events like the Millions Paws walk was essential to the organisation.
“By taking part in a Million Paws Walk, you’ll be helping to fight animal cruelty while enjoying a great day out with like-minded dog lovers,” she said.
The event will be held at Yan Yean Reservoir Park on Sunday, May 15 and is open to people of all ages and dogs of all age, size, breed or ability.
The two-kilometre walk starts at 10am.
Participants can register on the day from 8.30am or beforehand at www.millionpawswalk.com.au
